STYLE EXPERT 401: THE RULES MATCHING TIES WITH ALENFORD SHIRTS – PART 2 OF 4: STRIPES

Luigi Leonardi, the Style Expert of Alenford Made in Italy, pairs ties sold by Freshneck and shirts sold by Alenford to show newcomers how to properly match shirt/tie combinations and a refresher for would -be experts with new ideas.

In the second of four blogs Luigi will continue with and show how to match a Striped Shirt.

1) Monterey Blue and White Stripe

A classic Bengal (as in “Bengal Tiger”) stripe is always a good striped shirt, especially in its classic colors of blue and white. It’s part of the English “preppy” look and is still today the number one color combination. It’s great with any tie that will pick up the color (blue) or another harmonious contrast (yellow).

2) Mustang Blue and White Stripe

Here is an excellent opportunity to go bold with your tie! The shirt is a muted mini stripe with a predominant shade of blue over a smaller white stripe. It allows for ties with strong contrasting colors. This combo goes great with a solid blue suit as much as with a blue blazer or a blue/gray pinstriped suit.

3) Popeline Red Coral and White Stripe

This coral and white stripe is quite colorful! The choice of tie here is for a “tone down” effect, ideal for a gray solid suit or a pinstripe. It’s a strong striped shirt that enhances both the tie and the suit. Wear it for a day at the office, or for meetings where your personality matches the shirt!

STYLE EXPERT 401: THE RULES MATCHING TIES WITH SHIRTS – PART 1 OF 4: SOLIDS

Luigi Leonardi, the Style Expert of Alenford Made in Italy, pairs ties sold by Freshneck and shirts sold by Alenford to show novices how to properly match shirt/tie combinations and a refresher for would -be experts with new ideas.

Luigi will use examples on how to match Freshneck ties with four different Alenford shirt types: Solids, Stripes, Checks and Plaids in a four-part blog series. He will start with the easiest one, a solid shirt.

“You have always heard the acronym KISS – keep it simple, stupid -, to reflect a basic tenet rule on life. Well, KISS certainly applies to one’s wardrobe, whereby you wear elements like shirt and tie that won’t clash either with each other or the suit or jacket worn on top. We have now taken the task on how you can follow the KISS rule when applied to matching a tie with a shirt and at the same time learn how you can elevate your personal taste to levels way past Fashion 101.

So, let’s start with the first ingredient, the solid – as in one overall color – shirt; (yeah, if you like to cook, it will remind you of your first spaghetti tomato sauce).

1) City White Solid

The White Shirt. You can practically match any tie with it and your only consideration is how loud or somber you want your tie to be based on the suit-wearing occasion. You KNOW that you want to wear a very quiet tie to a funeral and/or a wedding/ official ceremony. Shop City White Solid

2) Rugby Light Blue Solid

The Light Blue Shirt. Same freedom as with a white shirt, except it’s not highly recommended for weddings/ official ceremonies. Light Blue happens to be more complimentary to all skin complections and it’s easier to bind any suit/jacket color. In Italy it’s considered the ideal everyday man’s shirt color. 3) Pinpoint Light Pink Solid

The Pink Shirt. This is definitely where men take major separate sides. Some men would never wear a pink shirt simply because it has a feminine connotation. The other, more “liberated” side, believes that a “good” pink fabric will add a perfect color combination to their blue, black, gray and even brown suit/jacket. The English upper class has been famously shown wearing the perfect pink shirt with their chalk striped suit and looking very dashing and sophisticated doing it. Shop Pinpoint Light Pink Solid
